Damaging your Reputation with Poor Telemarketing

After writing my last blog about how careful businesses need to be when telemarketing and their reputation we get bombarded by one. They are overseas and they obviously do not care less about the company they are working for..

Because we are a virtual telephone answering and messaging company we try to filter these calls for our clients as they do not wish to be distrupted by them.

I have even tried to contact the mobile phone Company to try to tell them that they are pestering my clients every hour on the hour even when they have been asked to remove the business from their list.

Just imagine the thousands of people they have alienated by doing this. No wonder they have to resort to these tactics to generate business but I feel they must be doing this to make sure that nobody takes up their offers.

My office (Kendlebell Luton) must have taken hundreds of the same calls in the last 24 hours and guess what even when they have been told not to bother they still persist. Just imagine if you as a business was bombarded how much distruption they could have caused. At least my clients will be blisfuly unaware that we have taken the calls and kept the distruption away from them.

I wonder how many virtual telephone answering and messaging companies have been experiencing the same calls in the last week by the same company.

We all know the saying the if you give a bad experience you will tell everyone.

Does Telemarketing Work?

In our experience, traditional telemarketing is not achieving the results that businesses were hoping for. New technology and the Internet have changed the way business is being done.

Our experience here at Kendlebell Luton is that those old-fashioned telemarketing calls don’t work. Because we are a virtual telephone answering and messaging service, at least 50% of the calls we take everyday are telemarketing calls of one sort or another. Not only do these calls take up a lot of time they are disruptive to your train of thought and your productivity. Just imagine if you were to take those calls yourself and how much of your time they would waste.

I am not saying that telemarketing does not work but it must be done very carefully so it does not undermine your business image or leave those called with a negative message or image of your business.

As a telephone answering and messaging company we answer calls from overseas telemarketing companies for our clients, many of these callers can be very aggressive which in turn puts off potential customers from ever buying or using the service of that particular business. The current economic climate has led to a sharp increase in these types of calls and from businesses, that did not traditionally use these methods.

However, we have found that relationship building via a call seems to work but the result is not instand but the long-term gain is better. Because you have been building a relationship, they are more than likely to turn to you when they require your service.

Having done this for my business Kendlebell Luton on behalf of some of our clients we have found that the long-term benefits are greater and the money spent doing this has been very cost effective in the long run.

A tip - if you are looking to telemarket your business send a letter or email first and break the ice, then look to build on this.
